A RENAISSANCE WOMAN - MY MOTHER
When my father passed away suddenly at the age of 32, my mother became my everything. She guided me, believed in me, and always encouraged my art making. Throughout my childhood and beyond, she was my steadfast support and inspiration. Despite my constant worry that something might happen to her, she lived a long, vibrant life, reaching the age of 97.
As she aged, my mother moved into an independent living community, where she was affectionately known as Miss America. Tall, elegant, and impeccably dressed, she carried herself with grace and dignity, even while using a walker. She would walk into the dining room as though she were entering a fancy restaurant, always leaving a lasting impression.
In her final days, I began creating photo transfers and paintings that celebrated the significant moments and experiences of her life. These artworks capture her trip to Israel, the joy of dancing with my stepfather Mark, and a shadow box I made after her passing, which includes her earrings, handwriting, an attempted email, and her eyeglasses. This series, A Renaissance Woman - My Mother, is a heartfelt tribute to her elegance, strength, and the profound impact she had on my life.
